What made you get involved with Walk and Talk?
My wife had seen a walk organised by the group on Facebook, and mentioned it to me.
What does Walk & Talk mean to you personally?
I genuinely feel proud to be an active member of our Walk & Talk community. It has become a very important part of my life, and has opened up the opportunity to meet and become friends with a number of local men; Some of whom I trust as much as my family.
What do you enjoy most about being a Trustee?
We have a fantastic group of guys as Trustees, who genuinely want to do all we can to create a supportive environment for local men, and I feel that my thoughts and ideas are listened to within the Trustees. I enjoy being an active Trustee because I can see that we are making a positive impact on our members.
What skills or experience do you bring to the board?
Active listening and empathy on walks.
Enthusiasm to support and help others.
My love of being outdoors.
Why do you think Walk & Talk is important for men’s mental health?
Gives a safe environment for men to open up about their mental health (but only if they want to).
Allows men to make friends, especially if new to the area (this was certainly the case for me).
We offer a wide range of activities, well-being support (yoga, breathwork, nutrition to name a couple, but there are many more) and provide resource for local men to make time for themselves, which is incredibly important.
What do you love doing when you’re not involved in Walk & Talk?
Swimming has become the second huge pillar in supporting my positive mental health.
One thing that always helps your own well-being is…
Swimming.
Fun fact about you:
Favourite movie of all time is The Wizard of Oz. Love it!
Have played in a band for the Queen, as well as a live televised Easter Sunday service and Songs of Praise!
